Born and raised in Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico Miguel came to Santa Barbara at aged 16. Supporting five sisters and his mother, Miguel learned English and hotel restaurant management at SB city college. In 1973 his business career started at the El Paseo Restaurant. For twenty years Miguel worked in the restaurant business and then in import/export in the field of farming technology. In 2001 Miguel was a participant in the deregulation of the public utilities with a company called CAN. Miguel was responsible for coordinating the expansion into all the Hispanic markets in California.

Miguel is the proud father of Aimee, 24 years old, who is a UCSB graduate soon to be teacher. His younger daughter Mireya is 13 years old and attends SB junior high school. She has her own business of designing and marketing jewelry, and plans to attend a fashion design school in Italy.

Miguel has been involved in our community for over twenty five years. He was involved in our SB Puerto Vallarta sister city program. He was a graduate of the inaugural Leadership SB county program and served as a co-founding board member. He was a SB city commissioner for Housing and Community Development. He was also a  director of Old Spanish Days, and a board member of the West Side Boys and Girls Club.

In 1993 Miguel became president of the SB Hispanic Business Council for the SB chamber of Commerce. In July 1994, he founded the Santa Barbara Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce. His vision was to help the Hispanic Business  community succeed with community and hands on support. While President of the chamber he was instrumental in founding the Santa Barbara Mariachi Festival.
