HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE

In the late 1960’s Vergil M. Exner and James D. O’Donnell teamed up to produce the Stutz Motor Car. Exner using his genius and expertise refined the original design until he felt he had created an automobile that was also a great work of art. This nameless beauty stayed on the drawing board until it crossed the desk of James O’Donnell, who then knew he was looking at the most beautiful car in the world.; The philosophy of O’ Donnell and his associated as most apparent in the manner in which the Stutz was and is created.“Our basic concept in creating the new Stutz Motor Cars is to combine the excellence of American production with the traditions al craftsmanship of European artisans,” explained O’Donnell.

‘The car was also the bait in an FBI sting that targeted Michael Caruana, New England’s most wanted fugitive, but went awry. Caruana showed up with a machine gun at the Stutz garage in New York on July 2, 1985, one day before FBI agents arrived. Caruana threatened a mechanic and made off with the car. Federal drug agents found the Stutz on Feburary 20, 1987 when they raided a Portland warehouse rented by Caruana and sold the car off to the highest bidder.’ (The New Haven Register, Friday, August 5, 1988)
